VFS In-Production Bootcamp | Capturing the K-Pop Magic

A 2-day In-Production Bootcamp for animators & actors to collaborate on an animated K-Pop dance scene.

With 266+ million views, Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters has become a global phenomenon. Now, actors & animators have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with renowned choreographer, Joe Tuliao, and industry animators to perform in/composite for an animated dance scene – inspired by KPop Demon Hunters and the global K-Pop brand.

What to Expect at the Bootcamp:

The bootcamp kicks off with an Industry Panel with Joe Tuliao and three VFS alumni who worked on KPop Demon Hunters – Matt McDonald, Daniel Orozco, & David Cadena. Hear how VFS training prepared 24+ VFS grads to work on this global hit, and discover from Joe how choreography elevates storytelling.

PLUS, witness a live production makeup demo – VFS Makeup Design Program Manager Iris Solar will transform her subject into a KPop-inspired creature throughout the day!

Then, dancers learn choreography with Joe Tuliao and audition for the 5 roles for the dance number, while animators participate in a workshop that details the process of compositing live action performances into animation.

On Sunday, the dance number is filmed. The 5 dancers – in full KPop-inspired makeup – will perform on-camera, and animators will composite this sequence into the final animated scene.

Joe Tuliao

Joe Tuliao is a choreographer, director, & performer whose boundary-pushing work continues to reshape the entertainment landscape. Joe choreographed the standout K-Pop fantasy sequence in Lionsgate’s hit comedy Joy Ride, a feature film directed by Adele Lim. Joe is also a Leo Award winner.
